ABU DHABIEtihad Airways has inaugurated flights to Chiang Mai, opening a new gateway to northern Thailand as part of an extraordinary expansion week that saw four inaugural services in just three days.

The new routes – to Tunis, Hanoi, Chiang Mai and Hong Kong – further consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global hub linking Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Etihad’s latest expansion supports the UAE’s tourism and trade ambitions, contributing to nearly 45 percent of the country’s aviation growth this year. The airline’s growing network now connects more than 85 destinations worldwide, offering travellers greater access to the capital’s cultural landmarks, pristine coastline, luxury resorts and major events.

Abu Dhabi to Chiang Mai

Etihad’s Chiang Mai route operates four times a week from Abu Dhabi, connecting Middle Eastern and European travellers to northern Thailand’s scenic mountains, temples, and vibrant festivals. The route complements Etihad’s existing daily Phuket service, providing travellers with more flexibility to explore Thailand’s diverse attractions.

Coinciding with the Yi Peng Lantern Festival and Loy Krathong, the timing of the launch adds cultural flair for early passengers as Chiang Mai lights up with thousands of floating lanterns illuminating the night sky.

Thailand remains one of the most sought-after destinations for GCC residents thanks to visa-free or visa-on-arrival entry, Halal-certified dining, luxury resorts and family-friendly attractions. Exclusive promotions by Etihad and tourism partners make Chiang Mai an inviting new option for winter getaways.

“With the Festival of Lights and Etihad’s new Chiang Mai service, the season ahead promises unforgettable journeys,” said a representative of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Dubai.
